K-12 Educational Research

This page is dedicated to providing easy access to research and data on Chicana/o-Latina/o education. It is driven by the recognition that the persistence of educational disparities is detrimental to the well-being not just of the Chicano-Latino community, but to the communities and states they live, and thus to the nation as a whole. We believe that making this research available in a centralized location to students, parents, educators, and policy makers will aid in our understanding of the problems but in the development of solutions. The resources are organized in six overarching categories to facilitate easy access to topics of interest. Within these larger categories are sub-topics where one can locate research produced by teachers, program administrators and leading scholars in the field. The bulk of the information compiled here focuses on the K-12 experience, but there we do include some information on post-secondary success because it is not enough to build the pipeline to higher education if students do not receive the resources and support they need to succeed in this setting.

Forthcoming on the Chicano Studies website will be a page that complements this information by providing resources on Latino cultural competency in an educational setting. This information will provide information, attitudes, and resources that schools, afterschool programs, teachers, as well as mentors and tutors will find useful in working directly with Chicana/o-Latina/o students.
